The Verbal Checking Test

In this example you are presented with a handwritten list of references for a journal article. You have to check the typed copy below it for any errors and ring them.

There are 6 errors in the typed version. 

  • In the first line the initials of the writer should be J.P. rather than J.R.
  • The first article is called New approaches to ambulatory therapy.
  • The first Journal is called the American Journal of Ambulatory Medicine, rather than Ambulance.
  • The second Author is Parandreus, not Papandreus.
  • The final article is on Metacarpal rather than metatarsal distress and it is published in 'Sports Medicine' and not Sporting Medicine.

The Numerical CheckingTest

In this example you are asked to assume that errors have crept into a computer file.  Fortunately you have a back-up file which is correct. All you have to do is ring the errors in the file in the answer box

The Technical CheckingTest

In this example you are shown a map of a tourist circuit.   Your task is to check the instructions for the journey round the circuit and ring any errors

The Word Meanings Test

In this example you have to find words which have been used incorrectly and replace them with suitable words. When you find an incorrect word in a line, choose a replacement from the list of words provided and write its identifying letter in the answer box beside that line

The Spelling and Grammar Test

In this example you have to find errors of spelling and grammar.  You will be asked to draw a ring around any you find.  The test itself will last eight minutes

The Decision Making Test

In this example you have to answer enquiries by deciding which options meet an enquirer's needs.  Each question has a number of enquiries to answer and a set of rules which are needed to answer the questions.  These rules will be found in boxes below the questions.  The questions are answered by selecting one or more than one of the options provided.  This test will last 15 minutes

The Filing Test

In this example you have to put new records in the right place ina filing system.  In each question there is a file with numbered records and a list of new records with no record numbers.  Decide where each record should go and write, in the answer boxes, the numbers of the two records between which it should be placed.
