Skillscape Practice Questions

Skillscape contains three tests, covering literacy, writing and numeracy. Below are examples of the kind of questions you will find in Skillscape.

Literacy Test

The Literacy test asks you to look at a local newspaper, the Brimfield News, and then answer questions from this. The newspaper contains information on local news stories, advertisements, and information. An example piece of information is given below:

A literacy question might ask:

When does the last bus leave Brimfield train station for Ashcroft town hall?

The answer to this question is 2130.

Writing Test

The writing test also uses examples but asks you to write more detailed answers; for example:

A person arives at Brimfield train station at 0820. Write a sentence saying what time the next bus to Ashcroft town hall leaves and when it would arrive at Ashcroft

The answer would be something like "The next bus from Brimfield station leaves at 0830 and arrives in Ashcroft at 0845".

Numeracy Test

The Numeracy test asks you to do some calculations involving addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. You may also be asked to do some calculations involving fractions and percentages:

The correct answer is C

There are also some calculations where you only need to work out a rough (approximate) answer. For example:

59 + 39

The third type of question that you will be asked to do involves using different types of numerical information, such as charts and tables, to work out the answer.

How many cars were sold on Thursday?

a) 05
b) 10
c) 15

The correct answer is F (30)

How many more cars were sold on Tuesday than on Wednesday?

a) 03
b) 06
c) 09
d) 12
e) 15
f) 18

The correct answer is E (15)
